On the 23rd and 24th of August, Lucy Scott attended a marine remote sensing meeting in Hartebeeshoek North of Johannesburg, where delegates discussed remote sensing in the region.
"The status quo in marine remote sensing in southern Africa has become somewhat fragmented with several initiatives and efforts being implemented independently. This has lead to a degree of duplication of effort and frustration among some users. The goal of the meeting was to bring to the table the collective resources and efforts and to re-organize the marine Remote Sensing community into a single entity that can service the range of needs, “picture to pixel” of the range of users and practitioners. The form of this entity was to be main outcome of the meeting with the main aim being to establish a single portal for all stakeholders and users into an organized network of marine RS and also to form an administrative hub for users, researchers and the distribution of funding within the network of RS facilities."
