Hello,
Yesterday, 5 coelacanths were found in Jesser Canyon. After looking in all the usual places, they were found, near the end of the dive, in a cave where they usually do not occur. This is the last dive close to the Bay, they are going to move north and south again and cell phone reception is not very good.
They are also planning to explore deeper and not only in the expected range of the coelacanths.
Today they are doing a geological dive in Diep Gat with Andrew Green, he will follow the contours of the canyons, make notes of the strata and also take samples. When back in the lab he will be able to age the rocks, also determine if they originate from terrestrial or marine environments. This will help plot how the canyon formed.
We can only hope the weather holds out as more cold fronts have been predicted.
Oh yes the mystery animal opened up after Kerry watched over it till 5 am in the morning, it is a species of anemone, not yet described as far as she can tell, it also appears to be nocturnal.
At night they have been analysing video footage from last year, identifying and trying to quantify the species and biodiversity.
